Centennial Recreation Center Recognized by League of California Cities
The Mayor and City Council are pleased to announce that the Centennial Recreation Center (CRC) is a recipient of a 2008 League of California Cities Helen Putnam Award for Excellence. The facility was recognized in the Community Services and Economic Development category because of the positive impact it has had on the Morgan Hill community.
As Chris McKenzie, League Executive Director, stated, “This prestigious program holds a long tradition with all California cities and the League, and is proudly supported by our League Partners program.” Established in 1982 by the League of California Cities, the California Cities Helen Putnam Award for Excellence program recognizes outstanding achievements by California’s 478 cities. Winning cities have made unique contributions to community residents and businesses, contributions which have resulted in lower costs or more effective delivery of services. The purpose of the California Cities Helen Putnam Award for Excellence program is to recognize and promote the outstanding efforts and innovative solutions by city governments to:
■ Improve the quality of life in local communities
■ Implement efficiencies in service delivery and operations
■ Provide services responsive to the local community

As part of the award, the City had the opportunity to showcase the CRC at the League’s Annual Conference in Long Beach. Officials from throughout the state learned how the CRC has helped solidify the important role that parks, recreation, and community services play in the Morgan Hill community. Built to promote multi-generational interaction and advance the physical well being of the community, the CRC has over 10,000 members who enjoy the many recreational and social activities on a daily basis.
