Office of Emergency Services (OES)

OES provides free educational services to the entire Morgan Hill community to prepare, respond, and recover from emergencies and disasters, both natural and man-made.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

CERT is a 20-hour training course that teaches how to respond to emergencies. Course topics and hands on training include emergency preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, communications, damage assessment, disaster psychology, and disaster medical operations.

All trainings are free to community members living or working in South Santa Clara County. Teenagers are welcome to attend with a parent and can earn community service hours.

Complete the Emergency Management Team's form for more information about the program. Or, you may register for either 2026 session. Classes fill up well in advance!

2026 CERT Training Classes

Spring (In-Person location in Gilroy)
• Friday, March 13 | 6:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
• Saturday, March 14 | 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
• Saturday, March 21 | 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Fall (Hybrid – Online & In-Person in Morgan Hill)
• Online classes: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9/29–10/22 | 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
• In-person session: Saturday, October 24 | 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Listos

Listos (ready) is an opportunity for our Spanish-speaking community to become prepared for the next large-scale emergency. The training reviews 5 easy steps we all can take towards preparedness. Listos is available on our City’s YouTube page, which also includes the "Do 1 Thing" campaign monthly series in Spanish and the 2024 Disaster Preparedness 10-Minute Workshop videos presented in English and Spanish. Disaster preparedness info can be presented to groups in person by contacting Office of Emergency Services.  

Volunteer licensed amateur radio operators train, practice, and respond to emergencies in Morgan Hill when communication systems are not functioning. The Team is seeking additional amateur radio operators to assist in times of emergency. For more information on local amateur radio efforts please visit the Morgan Hill amateur radio ARES/RACES team.

OES staff maintains the City's Emergency Operations Plan (PDF) in accordance with the State of California's Standardized Emergency Management System.
