John and Michelle McKay, with their two dogs, moved from the heart of Silicon Valley to Morgan Hill in the year 2000. They quickly found that Morgan Hill was the place where they could find that missing sense of community and felt that one day this community could be a part of their extended family.
After the great recession inspired his retirement from a career as a commercial construction project manager John decided to redirect his energies into the community of Morgan Hill. He focused on understanding the community, volunteering for non-profit organizations, and being involved in initiatives and projects that he hoped would benefit this community. He served for seven years on the Planning Commission, two years as the president of the Downtown Association, and is slated to be a director of the Morgan Hill Rotary Club. He has been involved in the formation of the Morgan Hill Tourism Alliance, creation of the downtown pop-up parks, built the “Big Blue Chair”, helps with marketing the Wineries of Santa Clara Valley wine association and wine region, and works on community bicycling efforts like the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Group and Amgen Tour of California local events planning.
John has been elected to represent City Council District D and feels his commitment to the Morgan Hill community is like that of his extended family.
