Flock Safety
Morgan Hill Police Department has taken an innovative step to use technology as another tool to help prevent or solve crimes. In 2021, we partnered with Flock Safety to install 50 fixed automated license plate reading (ALPR) cameras in strategic locations around the City to provide the vehicle and license plate evidence needed to help accelerate investigations and solve crimes.
Flock license plate reader cameras are enabled with technology that allows our department to filter through the vehicle characteristics and license plate data collected by the readers in addition to receiving alerts for stolen or wanted vehicles. These stationary ALPR cameras provide 24-hour coverage and their encrypted data is retained for 30 days (all data is automatically deleted on the 31st day). The cameras and data collected adhere to all state laws as well as to our Department's Public Safety Video Surveillance Policy.
The ALPR camera technology does not provide facial recognition of the vehicle's driver or their personal identifiable information nor is it used for traffic or immigration enforcement.
