Economic Development Blueprint & Strategy

The City’s Economic Development efforts focus on Economic Development Blueprint Front Cover Imageimplementing the 2017 Economic Blueprint strategies and actions to help build long-term fiscal sustainability and improve quality of life for residents. The Blueprint is founded on guiding principles from the General Plan, Morgan Hill 2035, and incorporates feedback from over 400 residents, businesses, and community leaders over a 2-year period of time.

Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing

  • Manufacturing is the largest industry in Morgan Hill, ranging from sports to electronic components, to medical devices, to food. 
  • With an industrial vacancy rate of 11.1 percent and lease rates lower than most other Bay Area Cities, Morgan Hill is a hot spot for manufacturers looking to relocate and/or expand.

  • Healthcare is supported in 95 percent of Citywide zoning districts. 
  • Sutter Health, a subsidiary of Palo Alto Medical Foundation, recently announced their acquisition of the Rosewood Medical Site and intention to build a full-service hospital in Morgan Hill.

Tourism & Hospitality

  • The Outdoor Sports Center and Aquatics Center attract over 1 million visitors annually.
  • The Silicon Valley Wine Trail is one of the oldest wine regions in California and home to approximately 30 award-winning wineries.
  • Visit Morgan Hill was created in 2019 as a Destination Marketing Organization dedicated to executing tourism promotion programs.

  • In 2023, the average household income in Morgan Hill is $163,172 and 24.8 percent of households are considered affluent. 
  • 2,900 housing units are approved for construction over the next several years.
