In a collaborative effort to build a stronger, more inclusive community, Morgan Hill gathered diverse local residents to discuss the crucial connection between affordable housing and a thriving community. The insightful conversations explored the challenges and opportunities surrounding housing affordability, economic mobility, and fostering a sense of belonging for all residents. The City aims to harness these diverse perspectives to create a path toward upward mobility for all community members, ensuring everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to succeed. 


Strategies and Actions

Strategy 3A: Employer Residents: Building Housing Knowledge and Access

  • Create user-friendly marketing and increase promotion of housing resources. 
  • Build a network of trusted messengers (“promotores”) to connect with, inform, and engage the Spanish speaking community. 
  • Work with apartment managers to build relationships with community.

Strategy 3B: Increasing Affordable Housing Assets

  • Collaborate with community partners to establish an Economic Mobility Resource Center.
  • Encourage construction of Extremely Low Income (ELI) Housing.
  • Support rental housing production through zoning and funding.
  • Remove zoning barriers that prevent development of smaller housing units.
  • Secure funding and partnerships to expand housing programs and resources.

Strategy 3C: Break Down Barriers and Foster Inclusivity by Redefining Affordable Housing

  • Implement an educational campaign promoting affordability applies to and benefits everyone.
  • Counteract misinformation about affordable housing by celebrating stories of residents.
  • Promote equitable and fair access to housing.
  • Build a more inclusive community by empowering underrepresented voices.
