The Youth Action Council (YAC) is a group of teen developmental asset leaders from ages 13 to 18 that give a voice to teens in the community by building assets one teen at a time.
The purpose of YAC is to serve as the prominent voice representing the youth in our community. YAC helps the teens of Morgan Hill recognize that they are valued and appreciated as a part of the community (Asset #7: Community Values Youth - young person perceives that adults in the community value youth). As a group of dedicated teenagers, YAC will communicate the desires of teens and create programs and special events where teens can cultivate Developmental Assets through building a bond with other teens and members of the community.
All students interested in becoming YAC Members must first complete the Youth Leadership Morgan Hill program during the summer in July. The application packet is available in March every year. A completed registration packet needs to be submitted at the time of the registration by email to Chiquy Mejia at Chiquy.email@example.com. Register online here: YLMH Registration (activity code: SSV005).
YAC Applications will be handed out to the YLMH students on the first day of the program, and on the second day there will be a Parent Orientation. The YAC application must be submitted by the third day of YLMH, Wednesday, to receive an appointment for an interview. Interviews will be held on the fourth day. Selected YAC Members will serve a minimum 1-year term and serve until their high school graduation. An incoming senior in high school may serve only one year. Terms start in September each year.
YAC monthly meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month (third Tuesday of the month in September and January) at 5:30 p.m. at the Centennial Recreation Center Meeting Room.
